Diesel Powered Equipment Technology

The Diesel Powered Equipment Technology program provides practical experience in the repair and maintenance of engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, clutch and transmissions, hydraulics, drivelines and axles, frame and suspension systems, steering systems, brake systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.  Students receive instruction in diagnosing trouble, system analysis, disassembly, replacing defective parts, reassembling, etc.  The program mission is to provide technical instruction and skill development to enable students to enter employment in truck, construction, agricultural equipment, and other related fields as technicians.  By working on actual diesel powered equipment, students are well prepared to enter the workforce after graduation.

Program Outcomes:   

To provide training for those who are interested in obtaining a thorough knowledge of Diesel Powered Equipment component construction, theory of operation, proper service procedures, mechanical skills necessary for gainful employment in the Diesel field, and to obtain ASE Certification in one or more areas.
To develop a knowledge and skill of the use of tools, diagnostic test equipment, technical manuals, and practical “hands on” industry type shop experience.
To insure the trainee develops proper safety practices and desirable attitudes such as good moral and personal characteristics essential to job success.
To develop the student’s cognitive and psychomotor skills to be able to pass the examinations administered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and be awarded their certificate showing their areas of demonstrated competence.
